Heroes Bar and Grill, 125 West Santa Fe Avenue, Fullerton, California, 92832-1831. T: 1 714 738 4365. Recommended by a reader who says they have "102 beers on tap (95% Imports). On only my 2nd pint into the evening, I found Kostritzer Schwarzbier. It also has a varied menu from colossal-sized burgers and stuffed chicken, to slabs of fish and beef, all in portions that assure there will be doggie-bags. It has drinking facilities in front with dining in the back, and also, a patio for both. Multiple TVs in viewing positions for the sports fans in the bar area, but, not for the diners. Lots of old photos, signage and artifacts make it a comfy atmosphere. Peanuts in ballpark bags are passed out to patrons, and the shells are tossed on the floor. Dinner for 4 adults with a few pints each was under $100 including tips.". [April 2004]

A Bit of Germany, 916 Patricia Drive, Dunedin, FL 34698. An anonymous reader writes: "You may add "A Bit of Germany" in Dunedin, Florida to your list of places to buy good German beer and a meal. It is owned and operated by Trudy Koch from the Luzcern Switzerland area. She stocks an impressive assortment of German beers in bottle and Warsteiner and Kostritzer on tap. Trudy also has a terrific menu featuring many signature German dishes. Her menu is the reason I am visiting your site. I want to know more about the beer she offers. There appears to be so many subtle nuances: type of grain, glass size, accompaniments such as lemon or no lemon, amount of foam to create from the pour, etc., that should be known to any one who wants to appreciate German beer. I feel we Americans have totally missed out on the finer appreciation of it all." I think this underestimates the American appreciation of beer as there are many fine American brewers who brew German-style beers, but you can judge for yourself.

Promises genuine Bavarian cuisine and beers "brewed under license and supervision of Staatliches Hofbräuhaus in München". Why don't we have anything like this in the UK? Not fair! Readers' comments: Justin says "I live down the street from this place in Dayton, KY. It alone turned me on to German beer! They have the best beer I've ever tasted, period, and they brew it all right there. Good authentic German food in the day with a live polka band! Every time I walk in there I feel like I'm on The Man Show. I heard the place gets very wild at night time, but have never been. It is by no means 'cheap', and since I'm in college I don't go there too often, but their beer is unbelievable. I'm particularly fond of the dunkel!"
