Cheshire

Back to list of Counties

"We also stock a wide range of Belgian beers and other beers from around the world including Spain, Poland, Turkey, Greece, Holland, France, America, Argentina, Japan, Portugal and others upon request. We also cater for specialist orders..." Latest update: "Oktoberfest beers now in stock (Paulaner, Spaten, Löwenbrau & Hofbrau). Also now in stock, Thier Pils, Licher Pils, Karg Weiss, Paulaner Salvator, Schneider Aventinus and Erdinger Pikantus. Case deals available and offers on Oktoberfest stein glasses". Sounds excellent.

Dave Icke (thanks, Dave!) reports: "The pub has been voted 'Best Pub in Cheshire' for the Out Inn Cheshire CAMRA beer guide as well as being entered in the GBG for a number of years now. The emphasis is on British and Belgian beers with a smaller selection of German beer. On draught as regulars there is Erdinger Weissbier and Bitburger, together with a bottled range which generally consists of the following:- Erdinger (Dunkel, Helles, Schneeweisse, Pikantus and Alkoholfrei(!)); Heller Trum (Schlenkerla Rauchbier); Hofmark (Herb Wurzig); Kaiserdom (Dunkel); Kostritzer (Schwarzbier); Oechsner (Maerzen and Schwarzbier); Rauchenfels (Steinbier and Steinweiss); Schultheiss (Berliner Weiss with a choice of syrup(!)); Schneider (Weiss and Aventinus). Occasionally the range may vary with addition or substitution. Together there is as mentioned 10 handpumps with boring British beer and also Pilsner Urquell and 2 Belgian beers on draught (currently Van Honsebrouck K8 and Timmermans Peche) plus 100+ bottled Belgian, American, Czech, etc beers. There is a Beer festival in July 10th - 15th - for British beer. [...] the beer festival has open field for caravans and camping just behind the pub for the week that it's on. The food there is spot on too." If this weren't enough, the pub also stocks that rarest and most gorgeous of Belgian beers, Westvleteren, according to Jason Herring (Cheers, Jason).

The Borough Arms, Earle St, Crewe. (North of railway station, about 20 min walk). Dave Icke states: "The landlord here has Bitburger on draught rotating with other continental 'lagers' and on my last visit had Kaiserdom Kristal in bottles. [...] predominantly Belgian beers here with 6 'Cobra' fonts on the bar and a range of about 30 different bottles, also about 6 handpumps of the boring stuff. He is willing to branch out into more German beers if there is a demand"
